I am a 24 year old medicine student. I have experience in looking after the elderly from attending the Dublin Diocese Pilgrimage to Lourdes and working on the wards there. I also regularly look after my granny who lives nearby.

I worked as a junior research scientist at Genomics Medicine Ireland. My duties were varied and include searching for genetic variants in a number of rare diseases and analysing and interpreting patient data from different cancer samples. There were also weekly team meetings where I presented any interesting results/ findings or posed potential research questions.

I worked with Professor Puri’s lab team for the summer of 2015. The lab work was centred around Hirschsprungs’ Disease. I learnt a number of laboratory techniques. This include performing DNA extractions and preparing specimens for immunofluorescent and immunohistochemical analysis. My work resulted in five research papers. Three of these have already been published.

I was chosen to travel with the Dublin Diocese on their pilgrimage to Lourdes. My duties included looking after elderly patients on the ward, bringing them to ceremonies and into the local town during the day. There were also evening activities which I was involved in putting together and helping the patients get involved. I loved my time here.
